Yiyan Cao

Principal

Ms. Yiyan Cao advises corporate and individual clients on cross-border tax issues involving multiple countries in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and North America.

Ms. Cao has more than 10 years of foreign law and practice experience serving international clients. She creates solutions that maximize tax efficiency globally and emphasize coordination with the foreign jurisdictions concerned.

Ms. Cao develops and implements cross-border trust and estate plans that protect and preserve the family’s wealth globally for beneficiaries living in and outside of the U.S.

Ms. Cao obtained her Bachelor of Laws from Tsinghua University School of Law in Beijing, China. She received her U.S. law degree from UCLA School of Law.

She practiced law in Shanghai, China as an associate for top-ranked law firms counseling China-based large corporations. Her foreign law experience also includes studying Australian laws at Melbourne University School of Law and a clerkship at the International Criminal Tribunal of the former Yugoslavia in the Hague, Netherlands.

After graduating from UCLA School of Law, she practiced U.S. tax law for law firms recognized for international tax and tax compliance practices. She led a U.S. tax counsel team serving business owners and major shareholders of multinational corporations including public companies.

For Pro Bono work, Ms. Cao counsels Tsinghua Alumni Association of Southern California. She also counsels other non-profit organizations and young first-time entrepreneurs in her spare time.
